Hello! Welcome!
My name is Launa and this is where you can learn a little about me.
First and foremost I am a follower of Jesus. I have dedicated my life to sharing His love in all that I do.
I am a recently graduated surgeon who is going to work in Togo, Africa. I have joined an incredible group of people through the Samaritan’s Purse Post-Resident Program who are all going to serve around the world.
My calling into medicine began with a calling into full-time medical missions. When I decided to go to medical school, it was because I had decided that I wanted to have an impact on international communities and specifically I wanted something to contribute to a community. I felt that meeting someone’s physical needs through medicine was a good gateway to talk about meeting their spiritual needs through a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ. My long-term goals are to pursue being a general surgeon in an underserved area, likely overseas, and to participate in the education of surgical residents and medical personnel internationally.
More about me…. I recently graduated from residency at the Detroit Medical Center in Detroit Michigan (Where I attempted to basically do a food tour of Detroit while in residency). I went to medical school at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine. I did my undergraduate degree at The University of Florida (Go Gators!!)
I enjoy almost anything outside: kayaking, hiking, biking etc….I wish that I loved to go running, it’s currently still a love/hate relationship.
I love to read and am enjoying some new-found free time to spend with my nose in some books, Tolkien is still my #1
I am headed out to Switzerland to learn French and then heading to be a surgeon at Hopital Baptiste Biblique in Togo, Africa for two years.
I love that you are joining me for this journey!
